Health & Beauty: Is Your Skin Spring-Ready?

Spring is here! The sun is shining. It's getting warmer. And, we're slowly shedding the layers of clothes that have been weighing us down.

But, has the cold, moisture-sapping Winter weather taken a toll on your skin? Leaving it dry and rough to the touch? Here are some tips to Spring-ready your skin as you begin to shed your Winter layers:

  • Moisturize right after you step out of the shower or bath. Pat your skin dry and apply moisturizer when your skin is still slightly damp to better lock in moisture. Use chemical-free and fragrance-free products since artificial ingredients can irritate the skin and inflame skin conditions.
  • Limit your intake of caffeine and alcoholic beverages that can dehydrate your body. Drink plenty of water to help your skin stay healthy and allow your body to function properly.
  • Exfoliate once a week to rid pore-clogging, dead skin cells and to allow cells to regenerate. Use a body polish, preferably sugar-based and natural scrubs that are gentler on the skin, to let your skin breathe and keep skin soft and supple.

Remember, if you have skin conditions that are persisting or worsening, please consult your medical practitioner.

Now, let's get ready for Spring!

Valentine's Day isn't just for lovers....gifts from local Etsians

For the cat lover. Card by DeborahJulian

I never liked Valentine's day as a single person. To me it was just a reminder of how single I was and all those thoughts of why am I alone...boo hoo.  Now that I am married there is pressure to do something on Valentine's Day.  And when we do celebrate I feel as though I am being obnoxious to those who don't have anyone. Ok obviously Valentine's doesn't work for me either way.  However coming from a family of 5 kids, my sisters and my parents would always send Valentine's to us.  As an adult living in the same city as one of my sisters, I would find a Valentine gift at my door that morning. It always made me smile or laugh and feel loved.  Valentines are for everyone, not just lovers.

Here are a few gift ideas for your friend, your sister, your brother, your child, your parent....all from members of Etsy New York.

for the friend who is always late, Vanilla Green Tea clock by Newyorkclocks

Pria Vanda :: Designer extraordinaire

{Desi Galli, a new Indian soul food restaurant at 101 Lexington Ave between 27th & 28th, NYC}

Our fabulous member & team treasurer, PriaVanda recently expanded her design portfolio - into food! She branded a new Indian retaurant in Kips Bay (a neighborhood on the east side of Manhattan) called Desi Galli.

She told me about the inspiration for the logo over a mango lassi...

 {my new fave summer drink...yummy!}

On a recent trip to India, Pria got the idea from a piece of fruit... in the form of a paisleys. They represent the Alphonso, a type of mango & during the period of her trip, India was having a particularly good mango season. Crafts people where using the paisley in all the saris. After a little reimagining, Pria turned the paisleys to form the D & G of the restaurant name. Voila! A logo was born!

{G is also for Ganesh, an Indian deity known as the Remover of Obstacles & Lord of Beginnings.}

Pria also helped with the decor at Desi Galli - she painted the small dining room white, opening up the space, then hand painted the logo on the wall. The result is a light & airy yet modern looking space. It's a great space! And! She has more! Currently she's working on adding woven panels around the restaurant.

Fans of Pria's notebooks & planners can look forward to her new cuffs this fall. They are fabulous!!

This restaurant is a great little spot & the food is delicious. I can't wait to go back. Pria, congrats on a fabulous project! The restaurant looks like a hot spot!

Find out more about Desi Galli on their website, follow them on Twitter and like them on Facebook! They are open for lunch & dinner 7 days a week & late on the weekends..until 3am!

See you around the web!
