NYHC: Tell us about what you make.

Lindsey Elias: I make a variety of products featuring my original paintings and drawings including greeting cards, tote bags, pins, and prints. Most of my original works are done in watercolor and then I work in InDesign to create my items. I print most of my cards and prints on demand, work with a partner for the tote bags, and have my pins produced by an outside company.

NYHC: Where do you live?

LE: I have lived in Brooklyn NY for many years. I love the energy of the borough and find it endlessly inspiring.

NYHC: What is unique or different about your process and/or designs?

LE: All of my paintings are my own creations featuring fruits, vegetables, portraits, and a variety of other items like a bicycle or whiskey glass. I pair up a piece of art with a fun pun or quote to create unique items.

NYHC: Do you have any favorite pieces? What makes them special to you?

LE: I love my Strong Women Series featuring women from many different backgrounds. There are so many amazing women to look up to and I love painting them.

NYHC: What is your favorite tool or supply?

LE: I really enjoy working in watercolor. It's flexible, less messy than acrylic or oil, and I've been able to create my own style with this watercolor medium.

NYHC: Is there a new piece/opportunity/change that you're excited about?

LE: I recently added pins to my shop which I'm excited about! I like being able to offer a variety of products, not just cards.

NYHC: What advice or tips can you share with other makers?

LE: Be patient and kind to yourself. Sometimes the inspiration doesn't come until it's ready to come. Be open to trying new things and taking risks. If it doesn't work out, at least you tried!

NYHC: Share an important lesson you've learned from running your business.

LE: Flexibility is key. I try to respond to current trends and offer new products as they become popular. I also prioritize customer service and am happy to work with customers on custom orders even if it means more work for me.
