Meet the Member: Monica Yepes

by Jennifer Velasquez

2020 has been a challenging year for so many and in the midst of that turmoil, psychologist Monica Yepes felt drawn to use her extensive knowledge in aromatherapy to create Motus. An aromatherapy wellness company that supports your body and mind. She shared with us what she’s learned from running a new business and how she juggles a career, running a business and being a mom.

NYHC: Where do you live?

Monica Yepes: I live in Manhattan with my husband and my little son.

NYHC: What is unique or different about your process and/or designs?

MY: I focus on making formulas to support our mind and body. It is essential to be mindful of our emotions, and my synergies can help you feel happy, relaxed, calm, or full of energy. You choose what emotion you want to experience in your life and how you would like to feel.

NYHC: Do you have any favorite pieces? What makes them special to you?

MY: My favorite piece is the Calma Relaxing Kit because it has all you need to start feeling relaxed and calm. The kit has several products to use throughout the day to support your mental health, such as a spray room, body oil, roll-on, synergy blend, and a bracelet.

NYHC: What is your favorite tool or supply?

MY: My favorite supply is the essential oils because they bring me so many good emotions when I work with them. I find that essential oils can make me feel energetic, relaxed, and happy when I need it. They are the most critical ingredient in my products, and I love how my clients feel when using them.

NYHC: Is there a new piece/opportunity/change that you're excited about?

MY: My shop on Etsy is very new, and it makes me very happy and grateful for starting this new journey. The whole process is exciting, and I am looking forward to making products based on people’s needs to support their mental health.

NYHC: Share an important lesson you've learned from running your business.

MY: If you have other jobs aside from your small business, it would be best to appropriately organize your time. It is vital to have a method that allows you to work on different fronts. Distribute your time accordingly to your priorities, and always take time to spend with your family.
