NYHC: Tell us about what you make.
Leah Conis: I hand make greetings cards, party banners and invitations, basically any paper good for any party or occasion. All of Purple Chloe’s items are all funky, colorful & fun!
NYHC: Where do you live?
LC: I moved to Fresh Meadows from Long Island in May.
NYHC: What is unique or different about your process and/or designs?
LC: Everything at Purple Chloe is an original idea, created, designed and assembled by me. All my products are one of a kind, you won’t find anything like them out there!
NYHC: Do you have any favorite pieces? What makes them special to you?
LC: Probably my most favorite pieces are my nautical themed cards. My favorite place in the world is an island off the coast of Maine where I get a lot of inspiration from. My grandparents bought our house in 1964 and we've been so lucky to have it all these years. The sound of foghorns & waves crashing, buoys, boats, rocks, docks & lighthouses are things I cannot live without. I also love banners where I am allowed complete artist freedom, I love picking out fun card stock and mixing and matching colors & designs.
NYHC: What is your favorite tool or supply?
LC: My Silhouette Cameo!! My brother gave me a Cameo for Christmas a few years ago. I don't think Purple Chloe wouldn't have blossomed into what it is today if it weren't for that amazing gift. I obviously also love paper.
NYHC: Is there a new piece/opportunity/change that you're excited about?
LC: I'm working on creating some of my designs into prints. Not everyone likes/needs/wants a card but I think my designs are so cute, they'd look great framed and hanging on a wall!
NYHC: What advice or tips can you share with other makers?
LC: Don't ever give up!! I've come to realize and accept you win some, you lose some. If you really love what you're doing, keep going. Don't compare yourself to others either.
NYHC: Share an important lesson you've learned from running your business.
LC: Step out of your comfort zone, go to that market, go to that event, there are so many people in your shoes and that have once been in your shoes who now have thriving businesses. Don't be afraid to say hello, you never know what connections you'll make.
