Boston Road-Trip Wrap-up
So, as reported here last week, a bunch of us from The NewNew went up to Boston this past weekend to participate in the SoWa Open Market's last-day-of-the-season Halloween bash. We were all in costume, many in scary and zombie-like ones in keeping with the "Market of the Living Dead" theme of the day. Nordea of Nordea's Soaperie probably fit in best as a dead hippie, but Kelly of Aperture Agog was also closely theme-appropriate as the Incredible Hulk (not un-dead but definitely human/not-human and scary).
Also on the scarier side was Yania of Yania Creations, who was dressed as a pirate.
The rest of us were a bit tamer: Angela, a.k.a. Enchantra Girl was a cat, I was a bee, and Loella Medina was... Well, maybe she can explain.
Anyway, it was a great day! Shoppers were friendly and engaging, the dressed-up dogs (and at least one cat) were adorable, and our items were well-received.
But the best part, as always, was meeting and talking to customers---from Boston and beyond. Kelly, for one, had customers that included "two transplanted NYC-ers, a crowd of ladies visiting from Florida, and a handful of couples from Vermont or New Hampshire."
For those who have made the trip to SoWa before, there was the added pleasure of seeing repeat customers. Nordea, who's been to SoWa about five times in the past two years, saw several of her Boston regulars. As she notes, "it's great to get feedback in person," and especially great to be able to show them new products and to hear their ideas. Indeed! It's the heart of doing craft shows.
And it only gets better from here on out. The holidays are fast approaching and you'll want to save this very important shopping date: December 5. It's when The NewNew is having its annual Holiday Handmade Cavalcade at the Open House Gallery in Manhattan. It's going to be great! Stay tuned for details!
Until next time --
