First Mondays Giveaway - Father's Day Edition!

Congratulations to Gina R of Smithtown, NY, the winner of last month's Mother's Day Giveaway giveaway, which included a necklace, a set of stationery and a pillow! This month, we have an amazing collection of items geared more towards the testosterone-producing types of humans. See below for rules and good luck! For the outdoorsman, a category that includes those grueling trips to the post office, an ear-warming handmade helmet hat by Projects by Carm. The genius of this little guy is that it can be worn as is or under a bike helmet. Carm specializes in knitting, crocheting and felting and uses these techniques to make all sorts of functional and adorable items. Click here for one of my favorites! Have you seen this show on Animal Planet called "Must Love Cats"? This cute guy travels the country to report on all things feline and even sings original songs about the cats he meets. I love this show. And if you feel the guy in your life "must love cats" then this print by Deborah Julian is just the ticket! Cats are definitely Deborah's muse - take a look at her reinterpretations of famous paintings that are made vastly improved - as is everything - by the addition of cats! To round up this month's Father's Day offerings, Letters That Wow has contributed a framed, personalized sports-themed artwork! You choose any 3-8 letter name and any theme in LTW's shop. What a great addition to an office or den! The winner of this giveaway will be announced on Monday, May 2 and our new June giveaway will be posted! To enter: 1. Make sure you are a follower of this blog. 2. Your comment is your entry. Only comments received by April 15 will be eligible. 3. Why We Love Craft Fairs

IMG_1930
Thank you for all your submissions to the Crafts in Chelsea Giveaway. The random number generator picked a winner:
Janice of The Way The Cookie Crumbles is the lucky winner of this fall's Crafts in Chelsea giveaway. She loves craft fairs because "There's always something for everyone and you never know what you will find."
I had a wonderful time reading all your comments. Joanna really summarized it for most of you when she said:
What I love most about craft fairs is all the creative energy in the air, the festive atmosphere with so much visual eye candy around me. It is like heaven on earth! It is so fun to walk around and gaze at all the unique and inspiring works of art, whether large or small, and having the exposure to so many mixed medias all at one time in one place is the ultimate in an art culture experience. I love striking up conversations with the artists and gaining some insight to their point of view about the works of art they have created. It makes for a euphoric day!

I also love to purchase unique beautiful gifts for my family members and friends so they can enjoy beholding something they may not typically have the chance to ever own. The gift of art never disappoints!
And to all you vendors, the efforts and creative ideas you invest in your displays are truly appreciated as One and Doll stated:
I love how things are "marketed" at craft fairs-- how do you make earrings look cool, how to get people to look at your things...it's not just the creativity of the designs, its a step beyond that..
And in conclusion, MommyTrenches pulled it all together with this statement:
I love that craft fairs are basically etsy, but in person.
Thank you all for participating in this giveaway and for supporting handmade and thank you to all the vendors who contributed to the giveaway:

Giveaway: Take Me To The Maker Faire!

The {NewNew} will be at the Maker Faire in Queens and we want you to come by and visit!

After five years on the West Coast, the Maker Faire finally puts down some roots in New York the weekend of September 25 at the New York Hall of Science in Corona Park. Makers from across the country will set up tents and show off their stuff to the enthusiastic New York DIY crowd. The {NewNew} will be among the exhibitors and we chose to teach, create, reclaim and donate all at the same time. We are setting up a public knitting and crocheting circle with the goal to make 100 baby items out of upcyled yarns using community support (that means YOU!). The circle will welcome all acrylic or cotton yarn donations that can be upcycled from past projects as well as gently used t-shirts which will be used to create yarn perfect for baby bibs. All donations of supplies, time and finished projects will be rewarded with a {NewNew} goodie bag full of promos that highlight its local membership. {NewNew} members will be available to teach basic knit and crochet to get you started on a series of simple projects based on patterns by longtime Maker Faire supporter Lion Brand Yarn. Not available to sit and craft? Take home the instructions and donate your finished project.

To entice you to stop by we are raffling off two tickets to the Faire, a $50 value. To enter do the following:
Leave a comment and copy and paste a link to the Etsy shop of your favorite {NewNew} Maker.

Need some inspiration? Click here for a list of the over 4000 products currently available from {NewNew} members and links to their shops.

We will randomly select a winner from the entries and announce the winner on this blog on Monday, September 13th. If you win, you must claim your tickets within 48 hours, otherwise the tickets will go to the next runner up.

Oh and if you feel like some shopping after the Maker Faire, visit our booth at the Bust Craftacular, which will take place that weekend on the same grounds.
